2024 in Portugal (Porto)

the Celebrity Equinox sailed into Porto, Portugal on September 1, but docked in Port Leixões in Matosinhos, about 8 km (5 miles) northwest from downtown Porto:

a free shuttle took us to Gaia, south of the Douro River:

• chose to walk on own around town
• had a "free" sightseeing walk but was scrapped earlier in the morning
• walked along a steep hill with stairs such as
  • Escadaria da Travessa Candido dos Reis
  • Escadas da Pedrosa
• reached the Jardim do Morro, a garden with "fairviews" or "belvederes" (Portuguese: Miradouro) of the Douro River and the downtown on the north side

went further into downtown...

• going north by Metro (subway train), getting off at Estação São Bento for:
  • Rua das Flores
    • a shopping street
  • Prometeu Artesanato
    • a shop with handmade crafts
  • Igreja dos Clérigos
    • the church with the bell tower
  • Universidade do Porto
    • with fancy "fontes" ⛲️ on its grounds
  • Rua de Cedofeita
    • a paved shopping street
  • Porto City Hall
    • with a run-of-the-mill "Porto" namesake standing before the building
