August 27, 2014 : the Europe sightseeing trip took me from Paris, France to Waterloo, Belgium for a short stop:

  • saw the site of the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815
    • "where Napoleon did surrender" and lost the Napoleonic Wars
  • saw the cone-shaped grassy "Lion's Mound" (French: Butte de Lion)
    • built about a decade after the fighting
    • where Prince William of Orange was wounded
      • the prince would later become King of the Netherlands in 1840

After a quick mid-day meal at Le Bivouac, the trip went through Antwerp and then headed to Amsterdam!
