2025 in Denmark (Copenhagen)
On June 27, 2025, the Norwegian Dawn cruise brought me to Copenhagen, Denmark (Danish: København, Danmark), where all passengers disembarked and went off on their separate ways!
I would spend 2 days and 2 nights in this famous city before returning home on June 29...
Day 1 (Friday, June 27)
Navigated through the city quite easily with only public transit:
- The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue)
- The Little Mermaid (the genetically modified version)
- Amaliehaven garden
- Ophelia beach (Ofelia plads)
- Nyhavn
- The National Library (Det Kongelige Bibliotek)
Day 2 (Saturday, June 28)
At this point, travel fatigue had set in. With only one goal in mind (the Changing of the Guards ceremony), everything else felt like a bonus:
- Marble Church (Marmorkirken)
- Royal family residence (Amalienborg)
- Changing of the Guards ceremony
- Shopping street (Stortorget)
- LEGO store
- bought a "royal guard" LEGO man keychain!
- LEGO store
By the time the afternoon heat set in, I simply went back to the air-conditioned hotel to drink supermarket-bought beers and go through tons of footage from nine different countries. Just before midnight, the sky erupted with fireworks from the Tivoli fairgrounds. I somehow regret not going but maybe if I did go, I would have regret spending so much money on going into an amusement park that I could have experienced anywhere in the world ;)
Flight back home to Toronto occurred at noon the next day!
Reflection
I would definitely visit Copenhagen again, as either the start or the end of another cruise itinerary. Focus would probably go into the museums:
- Charlottenborg art museum
- War museum (Krigsmuseet)
- Danish architecture center
- Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (19th century art museum)
Of course, its high prices and extreme levels of "touristy" would probably deter me from visiting the city on its own.
