2025 in Norway (Oslo)
On June 25, 2025, the appropriately-named Norwegian Dawn cruise landed in Oslo, Norway, after an hours-long sailing through the scenic Oslofjord!
This made it my:
- 40th country
- 29th European country
- final (5th) Nordic country
- final (3rd) Scandinavian country
We had two days and an overnight on the port.
Oslo is a very walkable city. Also, after several days of visiting Northern European cities, I felt a little "tour guide fatigue". So, I decided to visit Oslo on my own without any guidance except for Google Maps:
Day 1 (June 25)
- Royal Palace (Slottsplassen)
- Shopping street (Karl Johans gt)
- Got a free can of the Faxe Kondi drink!
- Oslo Cathedral (Oslo domkirke)
- Oslo tiger statue
- Deichman Bjørvika library
- Opera house [outside visit]
- Munch museum [free on Wednesday after 6pm]
- "Midnight daylight" on the ship!
Day 2 (June 26)
- Bydgøynes
- Roald Amundsen monument
- Inukshuk (a Canadian-Norwegian relationship thing)
- Aker Brygge
- a relatively new waterfront development district
Reflection
I sense another visit to Oslo and Norway in the future. Knowing that much more good stuff in Norway happens outside of Oslo, it will definitely be a starting point for a more in-depth visit to this country. More fitting for a less summer-y day, I would also try to visit a few more museums and galleries, if time and conditions permit, such as:
- Kon-Tiki Museum
- Maritime Museum
- Fram Museum
Despite taking a bus to Bygdøynes, I did not go inside those museums out of the interest of time and getting back on the cruise ship!
